We are pleased to announce that the 21st Young Academics AESOP Conference will take place in Bari, Italy, around March 2027, hosted by the Polytechnic University of Bari (Poliba).
The upcoming conference will be hosted by the Department of Civil, Environmental, Land, Building Engineering and Chemistry (DICATECh), bringing together an interdisciplinary research environment with strong expertise in urban and territorial planning, governance, and modelling approaches.
The proposed theme, “Planning Territories by Navigating in Uncertainties: Crises, Collective Actions and Decisions for Transformative Practices,” reflects the growing importance of addressing uncertainty as a defining condition of contemporary planning. The conference will explore how planners engage with complex socio-ecological challenges, contested knowledge, and evolving governance structures, while also recognizing uncertainty as a space for innovation and transformative action.
The programme is designed to foster both depth and interaction, combining thematic tracks, keynote lectures, a plenary debate, and hands-on workshops. These elements will culminate in a joint concluding workshop aimed at synthesizing key insights and advancing future research agendas in planning practice.
Bari offers an inspiring setting for the conference, with its vibrant historic center, accessible urban environment, and strong cultural atmosphere, providing an ideal backdrop for academic exchange and informal networking.
