We are hiring a new Editor in Chief, Managing Editor, and two Editorial Board Members.

This should include your short CV, explaining any previous experience in editing journal volumes, review management, and other publication management activities. You also need to write a short statement explaining an editorial philosophy, vision, and objective for plaNext. The selection of candidates will be made by plaNext editorial board before July 15, 2024.

Editor-in-chief:

  • main communication with AESOP and YAN for strategic questions of plaNext
  • manage the budget in light of strategic planning  
  • develop editorial staff in terms of roles and resources
  • make final decisions on the management of special volumes and the assignment of editors
  • make sure that the final draft of each volume is ready for publication
  • ensure the submission of the final version and monitor the publication process
  • enforce consistency across volumes in terms of writing style, graphics, photos etc.
  • ensure the employment of the ethical policy on all publications
  • arrange regular meetings with Editorial Board 
  • handle all communication matters with authors, including complaints
  • write editorial texts

Managing Editor

  • manage the submission system
  • assign the role manager of review to members of the Editorial Board or YAN
  • guide the review managers throughout the review process including deadlines 
  • collect the review reports from reviewers and compile one coherent report – or assign this to the review manager
  • communicate with the organization committee of the conference-based volume
  • collaborate with review managers around the quality of papers and guidelines
  • communicate with EiC for the final control and decision
  • supports the language editing and graphic editing process.

Editorial Board members

  • attend the Editorial Board meetings and actively take part in the discussions
  • participate in the editorial board of special volumes, when needed
  • manage and monitor the review process of manuscript(s) allocated to them
  • review manuscripts that fall within the fields of expertise
  • communicate with the authors and reviewers of manuscripts allocated to them for review
  • market plaNext within their respective networks

By joining plaNext’s editorial board you will become part of AESOP extended network, gain invaluable experiences in academic publication, and make a direct contribution to planning debates. Membership in the Editorial Board is 3 years with the possibility of 3 additional year. For the Editor in Chief, the membership is 5 years, with the possibility of 1 additional year.

Candidates should be members of AESOP Young Academics Network. Those who are not yet members can register from the YAN website after the elections of CT members; see the registration page after the 6th of May. plaNext is an international open-access peer-reviewed journal devoted to young academics within planning and other related fields. It is managed by the Young Academics Network of AESOP, publishing high-quality and original research. The fundamental approach taken by plaNext is to provide prospective authors an opportunity to engage their ideas in international planning debates as well as to make their research available to the wider planning audiences.
