The Lisbon Early-Career Workshop in Urban Studies (6th edition) will be held November 4–6, 2026 at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon (ICS-ULisboa).
This three-day event brings together PhD students and early-career researchers from urban studies, planning, geography, and related social sciences and humanities for an interactive forum of research exchange, discussion, and constructive feedback.
The 2026 workshop theme, “you participate, they profit: collective action, power and urban change,” invites submissions that critically explore collective action, democratic participation, and urban governance—from everyday practices to larger political struggles shaping cities today.
Featured keynote speakers include:
• Laura Saija (University of Catania, Italy)
• Jonathan Davies (University of Birmingham, UK)
Participants will have the opportunity to present work in parallel sessions, receive mentorship, and engage in discussions on academic development and publishing.
