As part of the introduction of our new team members we wanted to build a series for our audience to get a closer view of the newly elected members of the AESOP YA coordination team. Today we start with Mennatullah Hendawy.
Mennatullah is pursuing a Ph.D. at Technische Universität Berlin working on the intersections of cities, media & communication, and justice. Mennatullah is also a Visiting Researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space in Erkner, Germany, and an Lecturer Assistant at the Department of Urban Planning and Design in Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. Mennatullah is one of the AESOP Booklet team members and she is currently the Global Higher Education Specialist at Impact Circles.
Earlier, Mennatullah got an MSc. in Integrated Urbanism and Sustainable Design from Stuttgart University in 2015. Before that, she received a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from Ain Shams University in Cairo, specialising in Urban planning and design.
Hendawy is co-founder of Cairo Urban AI, a project working on exploring the potentials of using artificial intelligence to develop just and sustainable cities in Cairo, Africa, and beyond. Additionally, she is one of the initiators of First Degree Citizens; an initiative that tackles critical socio-legal geography. She is an interdisciplinary urban planner working on the intersection of urban planning, mediatisation, visualisation, and justice where she is fascinated by the way knowledge, power, and agency are manifested in and co-construct cities and the public sphere.
